Sunshine and writing

Yesterday was one of those days that make perfectly bearable the sheer financial struggle of being a freelance writer. Even the pain of writing what other people want you to write rather than what you want to write seems tolerable.
A lot of this was to do with the fact that the sun shone yesterday for the first time in what feels like six months. Another big help in turning the day from grind to grand was that one of my clients actually handed me a cheque. There's no point in denying that self-esteem gets a wee boost when you stand at the bank counter and pay in a cheque with a comma and a decimal point.
In the morning I drove to a client for a meeting. The traffic was bad but the music was good. The meeting itself was part of a regular series connected with the creation of content for a sales web site. I left with the aforementioned cheque.
In the afternoon I had to make a call to the US to discuss a technical article I'm writing for a company that creates mobile testing equipment for telecomms engineers. The call went well.
I ended the afternoon by giving the lawn a serious cut, then enjoyed dinner with Laura (including a bottle of Haut-Poitou Sauvignon Blanc) and then listened to Hearts beat Aberdeen 1-0 and qualify for next season's UEFA Champions' League.
A satisfied sigh to finish, I think.
