Good judgement

The other piece in the Guardian books section today that cheered me up was this item on the judge who slipped a code into his judgement on the recent Da Vinci Code case.
Hardly a major story but somehow heartening. Why? It plays into my maudlin sense of nostalgia for a world where judges are wise and humane, doctors write novels in their spare time and can happily quote from classic Latin texts, and children play in the streets.
Then again, it could be a sign that our judges are paid too much, have too much time on their hands, and are senile en masse. You decide.
