Skype Zones is definitely a beta

After I left the British Library on Tuesday evening, I walked over to Gower Sreet and spent some time browsing the second-hand department of the Waterstone's there. The old books section is left over from the days when it was Dillons, the university book store. I was half hoping to find a copy of 'Our Exagmination....', which I'd been flicking through every so often as I struggled to come to terms with copper twisted pairs and VDSL2 frequencies for the article I was writing. No luck and, despite my fondness for both Beckett and Joyce, I can't see myself paying the prices being asked on Abebooks.com or even Amazon.
I was meeting some friends in a pub in Rathbone Street and got there early, as is my habit. So I seetled into a Caffe Nero across from the pub for a cup of coffee and a rather pleasant slice of orange and chocolate cake. It was also a chance to try Skype Zones in a different setting. So I booted up the Z60m and launched 'the Zones' as we old Skype hands call it. When it asked me to log in I duly did but the dialogue seemed to hang. Eventually, I just killed it from task manager. But here's the thing: even with Skype Zones closed (nay, killed) I was connected. Better, certainly, than not being connected and the plug-in still running but definitely a little strange and probably confirmation that Skype Zones is very much beta software, as Skype are keen to remind us.
